Aaron, if the leather is not in danger of falling apart I would leave as is. Just make sure the room it is in, is a climate controlled room. And as said a classic m42. Marty

Nice lid. Better now that you have it in hand. Happy for you.
"Please", Thank You" and proper manners appreciated
My greatest fear is that one day I will die and my wife will sell my guns for what I told her I paid for them

Yes, Ballistol makes leather dark, but soft, that for me is the most important thing. Then, with the time, the treated leather returns more clear....
Great looking worn lid. Congratulations on the $ too.
Very nice pick up. I'd be inclined to leave it be as
well. Looks great as it is.........!
Regards,
Steve.
A nice lid at a nice price!
I wouldn't be treating the leather, whatever natural oils the leather may have had are long gone and trying to replace them now is likely to lead to rot.
I always thought Ballistol was used for cleaning/lubing guns, as far as i know it's a mineral based oil so personally i wouldn't use it on leather, but if you've had good results fair enough!...
Ballistol has many purposes. Ideal for metal, wood and also for leather goods. A very great product for me, that I always have at home......
