I am not out on starting an argument here, but the helmet is IMHO painted over rust. You can see it on the sanded part. Clean metal and rust. Being a M42 it also lacks the texture it should have. I think all M42's had texture. I will post some pics of a good LW repro for color and very nice original M42. I will look forward to see Doug's LW Feld.

Got some new info on this helmet. I went tks show it to one of my friends and he said that he was actually the one that sold it to the other guytthat sold it to me. He said that it was an attic find and that it used to be a lot darker color. He said that the guy had cleaned it with something that changed the color. He also said that you can see the Luftwaffe paint on the inside of the lid. Pretty interesting to hear.

Don't let a story alter your perception , it's not a helmet you want. Return it and look for something better , life's too short to invest in maybe's. Attic find doesn't make it a TR painted helmet. Right after the war helmets saw many different uses and were repainted for such purposes.

Exactly, don't believe a story. Anyone can make up anything. Look at the helmet for what it is, now what he said it was or is. Im not comfortable with this helmet. In the end, it's up to you, but I would return it.

Ray,this helmet could be anything, but two things are for sure:FIRST)It ain't FD! SECOND) No serious collector here would like to have it in his collection and, THIRD)If I were you now on I'd steer the hell clear from this guy and the others who try to talk you into believing that this postwar-repainted (and poorly at that!) helmet is an original!They surely are not so happy to return your money and fill your head with lame excuses and explainations that don't make sense!
