    Hey everyone,
I wonder if anyone here can give me any information on this helmet. I've had it for 25 yrs & I don't know anything about it, so Im hoping someone here can shed some light.

On the inside it's very difficult to see but there is a marking that appears to read ET6, but I'm not sure.

    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks!

Imperial German M16 (?).....I believe these were called Frankenstein helmets because of the two distinctive bolts on the side.

M17 due to the metal liner band.

"ET" is the maker. There will be another number after the 6, which is the helmet shell size.

    Cheers, Ade.

This is indeed a German WW1 M16 helmet, sometimes known as a M17 because of the metal liner ring. The first series of M16's was equiped with a leather liner ring. This one was a step forward in development. The helmet shows signs of the WW1 camo pattern. Quite nice.

The letters should be followed by two figures, i.e. 62, 64, 66 or 68. This signifies the size of the shell. The letters stand for the manufacturer, I believe Emailier Werke Thale.

The chinstrap posts sport the M91 hooks, that were attached to the strap, now apparently long gone, as is the liner.

    Nice one!

    Cheers,
    Emile

Also looks like it has the faint remnants of a camouflage paint job. Very cool!

I believe it is one of the smaller sizes due to the extra 'ridge'
on each of the side lugs. It will be a 62 or 64.

    Very nice helmet.........
    Regards,

    Steve.
