Need help on this helmet

Hi Everyone:
I've been offered this M42 helmet but I'm leery about the decal. The
decal is usually "shield" shaped. This one looks like it's been "squared off"
on the bottom. Any comments?

Click on the photo to enlarge the picture, it looks like someone cut off the bottom part of the decal. I would pass on the helmet.

The helmet looks good, but the decal looks funny.
Maybe someone put a piece of tape over it.

if you look carefully something has been stuck over the decal making it look square but its still has its shield shape perhaps someone did this in an attempt to protect it ????

I agree, something has been put over the top of it at some point. Whatever it is left the bottom of the swastika exposed as the bottom of the square runs right through it. As you said Nick it could have been something to protect it, but I reckon something may have been stuck over it in an attempt to de-nazificate the helmet because if someone was trying to protect the decal, surely the whole thing would have been covered? Not just the eagle?
