Need help identifying/authenticating this helmet.

Article about: I bought this from a collector who had a group of items for sale including this helmet, an Eastern Front medal, two photos of the original owner (a Luftwaffe pilot) and a huge wool embroider

Is there any way to find out what this helmet actually is? If it's post war it's not necessarily useless to me, I found some numbers stamped on the rear and posted a photo above. Any ideas?
As confirmed above it's a Bundesgrenzschutz lid, post war West German border guard helmet!..

Would it have been possible that this helmet is an early bgs and was made from a late war m42?

I've read some things after posting this thread that lead me to believe this is possible, do you know of any BGS resources I could consult? If this is a fine example of an original BGS helmet then I'd like to keep it and get a partial refund. Of course I'd like to remove the fake emblems on each side..

Great info, thanks very much. It's nice to know I have a 100% complete BGS helmet. I'm saddened that somebody would waste the time of putting fake WW2 era decals on it. Would it be worth it, or even a good idea to remove the fake decals so the helmet can stay in original condition? I may get a partial refund for the helmet as I'm still interested in it as a genuine post-war helmet.

I think it's pretty cool actually. I don't really do post war but you have a quite rare example there of very early BGS helmet. How much do you have in it?
