I'm new to this hobby and wonder if anybody can tell me anything about this helmet, is it WW1 or WW2? Only stamping I could find looks like ET64. Has a metal band on the inside but it's damaged, bullet hole from the back through the front goes through the band inside as well.

Nice helmet, with a lot of character

ET is for the maker Eisenhüttenwerke in Thale and 64 is the shell size, into which a size 57 or 58 liner would have fitted.

As stated it's an M40 and the primary difference between the M40 and the M35 is in the shape of the air vents.

Production of this helmet ceased in 1942

SCORE!! Thanks guys, I was hoping that this was WW2!! The same person who got this helmet for me also sent me the portuguese helmet (with the history written in German inside the the leather sweat band, picked up on the battlefield near Estaires France after the offensive of April 9th, 1918) Have an SS buckle on the way as well....
I don't know about all of you but I like these relic lids the best, specially since you don't have to worry about real or fake decals, paint, liners, etc and for a fraction of the price, I'm HOOKED!!
