Cheers guys, just waiting on the mail now! Shouldn't be too long!

And OBKrieger, the paint on this helmet is quite thick (possible a re-issue) so the lot number/maker cannot be identified unfortunately..

Would anyone recommend using a very fine sand paper to bring back the paint SLIGHTLY in the small areas where it would be stamped?

I would not recommend sanding to any helmet !

It is best to leave it as is. Any maker/lot#/size markings are not
important enough to kill some of the finish, IMO.

Unless you plan on stripping the paint off entirely, I'd leave it !

I think you're right on that one mate,

I do not plan on stripping the paint off entirely so I don't think I'll ever know the maker or lot number.

Out of interest, have you seen other helmets with a similar thick finish? Was this somewhat common?

The only two M42's I have are a dark grey/black, which I think is original
on at least one of them. It is possible that yours is a repaint,
but it may actually be the original colour.

You'll know for sure and can post more detailed photos
    when you receive it................!
    Regards,

Just out of interest, by re-paint do you mean a post war repaint, or a factory/depot repaint?

    Kind Regards,

    Joshua
