Just out of interest, by re-paint do you mean a post war repaint, or a factory/depot repaint?

    Kind Regards,

    Joshua
    Yes, a factory/depot/field re-paint.

I like the way rust and crazing has formed on this helmet,
which could mean if it was repainted, it was done
    some time ago at least.........
    Regards,

    Steve.

Also, the helmet is described as Schiefergrau (Slate Gray)

I think it does stand a good chance, and the more I look
at the photos, the more I like it............!

You may even want to get an original liner
    and split pins someday !
    Regards,

    Steve.

Don't sand it, just display it and enjoy! Well done!

Then it's settled, there will be no sanding to this helmet!

And Steve, someday I'd love to get an original liner and split pins, any idea where to find a good assortment of original liners?

    Cheers,

    Joshua

Here's an M42 textured shell I picked up a while back. Marks are ckl66 . Apparently everyone here says this is a repaint/ post war. [I] would leave your shell be. maybe find an original liner for it. It's a beauty!

    Cheers Dean,

I think I will leave it be and perhaps buy an original liner somewhere down the track!

Nice shell you got there mate, is that your first helmet? Do you have others?

Joshua, I've seen some pins and liners on E-bay, but you have to be careful as there are
a ton of fakes there ! Complete original liners can be quite expensive - as much as
a good shell, but I think it can be worth it.

Many German helmets have been repainted in the last 20 years and more, and any
modern paint removal should be done with stripper, never with sandpaper,
because sanding will remove original paint in a hurry, and original paint
is what should be preserved, IMO !

Thanks for leaving your helmet the way it is.......................!
    Regards,

    Steve.

There are quite a few original liners available but at a price, plus the condition will obviously affect that price, im off to a ,militaria fair this w/end they normally have a few there, but you need to be careful of the fakes
