I like these older helmets, with the studs sticking out the sides, it gives them some class.

    very nice helmet.

pammy, it is a WW1 Austro-Hungarian steel helmet, not made after the war or Police, but a wartime helmet. I have studied the marks stamped into the crown of your helmet and i believe they read 'B 8 1 ', this number is the 'heating lot' code indicating where the steel the helmet was stamped from was milled, in this case from the 'Bleckmann' steel rolling mill in Klando Boemia. Notice the '1' has been superimposed over an '0', this obviously corrects a mistake made at the time to re identify the batch by the helmet maker. Have you looked at the area below the chinstrap mounts on the skirt, are there any letters/numbers, for example 'AW 66'. It is not uncommon for Austro-Hungarian helmets to be found without maker marks.

Austrian Storm troop training. These elite troops had the job of removing enemy obstacles such as barbed wire machine gun nests and guards in battle using hand grenades, daggers, and clubs. The purpose was to help attacking troops get to their objectives. They were equipped with steel helmets, short rifles, hand grenades, M17 trench knives and supported by machine guns, and infantry guns.
