I also know the collector that does these helmets, I actually think it it a cool/good idea if if is just the shell of a helmet.

In am of two minds when it comes to this type of militaria collectible/artwork.

I'd prefer it were done on a repro shell, but then there is no real history
to the piece, but on the other hand, I do not like to see good original
material tarted up with a modern rendering, no matter how good
the painting is. It's ok to use a prepared relic lid for this
purpose, I guess.

When it comes to purchasing something like this, you are really
paying for the art and not the item it is illustrated on, IMO.

I Like your idea. It's a superb way to make something good from all of the more solid battlefield recovered dying damaged shells of helmets that you see so much today. William
