Is that paint original?

i Think the paint stands a chance , but looks like its been lightly rubbed down in some spots going by these photos , but the wire is add on , not period in my opinion , cheers Raymond

I cannot see well, but it looks to me that the steel was sand cleaned (not sure if this is the correct english word) , no paint.
The lid is a honest and solid, but in these conditions it doesn't worth much. As for the wire, i agree with Raymond, it has been added.

Hi,
My only concern i have with this helmet is the doenut (air vent )
is to large compered to the usual ww2 40 Patt, It may be post war. As they made the vents larger in post war helmets, I have six 40 Patt helmet ww2, and the vents are no where near this size
on yours. the wire is obviously added as it is to thin and wouldnt last long, IMO.
