Picked Up My First m40 Combat Helmet!

The veteran only said that he picked it out of a pile of helmets "while I was over there." He didn't give any more specifics. There were a few other helmets in his house, but he said that his sons had claimed those. Unfortunately I didn't get to examine those. He was in France, Germany, and England as far as I know.

As for the decal, is it possible that this helmet could have been a reissue? Or maybe the manufacturer ran out of decals from their normal supplier and had to fill an order quickly? I guess comparing decals on helmets with the same batch number might lead to the answer.
