Please help identify this helmet

Hey guys,
Can anyone help identify this helmet? I found it in an antique store, and it is listed as an early model paratroopers helmet. It has no maker mark or size on the inside of the rim. The leather is very old and stiff. It looks like it has had a recentish paint job too. To me, it looks similar to a child's toy helmet from WW2 period, but I could be way off!

Hello there,

It's not an early German Para helmet. There were 3 types of the "FJ" helmet, M36, 37 and 38, and none of them had the visor or skirt for that matter. Strange helmet you got there. I hope somebody can tell what it is

I agree Lars, that's why I stayed away from it! It has me very curious though!

Hmmm, odd one there. I'm thinking a cut down M40/42, the liner is not German from what I can tell. The very early para helmets did have a similar liner but not exactly like this. Don't lose any sleep over it I think it is just a messed with shell.

That may explain the no maker mark on the inside of the shell

That was my thought as well. Is it normal with a 7 tongue liner?

On that early para liner Lars, I'm not sure. I have only seen one and that was in the Ken N book, I'll take a look when I get home and compare but I am pretty sure it's not the same
