I bought some WWII guns and some other items form a friend of a friend. This also came with the deal. I am pretty sure it's real. The guy who sold it to me said it was found in a lake near Berlin. Was the guy telling the truth or is it fake?

Doesnt look good to me at all, sorry. The condition of the rest of the shell doesnt match that of the decal.

    Thanks

Pretty sure this is not real...

Decal is a CA Pocher copy which will only be found on the right side of a reissued SS helmet, which this is not. As well, this is applied overtop of relic damage and it is a known SS fake. The helmet may have been found in a lake but it didn't have this decal on it at the time....sorry but go back and get your money.

There are various ways to age decals and to make rust come through, but the biggset giveaway with this one, is the condition of the helmet as opposed to the decal, the helmet is in a semi relic state, the decal should match

Sorry, but you should go back for your money, as DougB above has said.

This is a relic shell with a fake decal. If it was thrown in as a freebie that's
ok, as it is worth a marginal price compared to a genuine SS relic shell.
All types of helmet decals are faked these days, including convincing
    'pre-aged' ones as well.

If you paid, traded or dealt more than $100 to $150 for it,
    you were taken.............
    Regards,

    Steve.

I bought an MG42 a MP44 some bayonets and he threw the helmet in at the end. He did tell me he found it in a lake so I assumed it was real.

The helmet is real, as Doug said, and its quite possible it was found in a lake, but the decal has been added
