Alright that being said how do they age the decal? it has rust bubbles coming thru the decal?
Its simple enough to do, but for a decal to be real first the graphics and the construction must be correct which this is not. Its pretty much chicken and egg kind of stuff. ;-) Ergo if the graphics are incorrect and construction is incorrect the rest is simply a moot point. It sounds like it was a throw in so remove the decal and you have an original relic helmet without a ghastly fake SS decal on it.

If it was found in a lake I am surprised there was any decal at all,if it is a real helmet it must be worth something.

We find them all the time in lakes, helmets in the water still have all the leather all the decals and most have the original bullet that most soldiers put in their helmets in case they are about to get captured
