Question about potential period gray repaint of Luftwaffe camo helmet

Never seen it before but it could happen , we see white painted helmets overpainted grey so tan is a also viable.
Looks believeable to me , although it is hard to authenticate the adler from the new photos. I am leaning towards it being good...but I never buy whilst leaning :-)

I think its could be ok also , maybe someone transferred from Italy front back to Germany and repainted their helmet for that front ?

I appreciate all the great opinions and ideas as to why this helmet could be the way it is. I always like unique original items (as do most collectors) but if you were in my shoes would you buy this one if the price was reasonable, or steer clear of it simply because of the question marks? In other words, are you confident enough in it being period applied standard gray paint that it will hold it's own against skeptics?

I would buy it as i like it and would be happy with it but thats just me

I purchased the helmet and took some much better photos (below - click to enlarge). Let me know if the new photos change anyone's opinion one way or the other, but in-hand I'm really liking this helmet. It tells a very unique story not often encountered with these tropical (or any other camo) helmets.

Schwerpunkt, did you find a similar helmet in a Google search? Your comment reads as if you may have. I would be interested in a link to what you found if indeed you did find something similar. If anyone else has seen a similar example of a camo helmet repainted back to the original gray I would love some information.

Heres a thought .... the vet repainted it back to the colour his buddies told him it should have been!!!

Cannot prove or disprove that, far fetched though it may be.
We can but speculate....
