    Default Reading a name...

I recently bought this, I dare say rare as hens teeth M16 SA helmet. Link is below. It arrived today and I am now trying to read the name on the inside.

    M16 SA Transitional - Hochland

I can make out some of the letters but not all. I would really like to read it so any and all help is appreciated.

So far I think it reads G. Forstba???. Any help?

    Thanks!

    Michael

That's funny, I was just manipulating the color scales as well. Nothing definitive yet.

From my original post? That's funny!!

Thanks John. Really appreciate the help. Just a couple of letters to go but yet so far....

To me the last letter is an N or R but the letter or two before it is still a mystery. Also it looks like one pad has an additional letter or two

    G. Forstbauer, Sturm 21/2

Michael - Looks like it is twice named w/unit (?) or squad (?).

Wow...now that it is solved, in looking back, it almost seems obvious. Thanks SO much for the help.

And yes it looks like there is another name below the first. I think the name might be something close to Holz or Holtz but haven't focused on it yet. The top unit is obviously Sturm 21/2

Once again. Thanks for all the help.

The Sturm 21/2 would seem to mean something like Sturm 21, Trupp 2 or something relatively close. So, 21st Company, 2nd platoon would be my guess.

Trupp (Trupp, platoon sized sub-unit): 3 to 4 Scharen (sections)

    Thanks John.

Did this same research a few weeks back and came to the same rough conclusion. Glad to see we're on the same page.

Off to solving the next set of names.

As an aside, I'm also trying to see if I can ID this man. Doubt I will find anything but I did find this nice picture (from here and our member William Kramer. Just another piece of the puzzle).

unknown Edelweiss cap badge - SA Hochland perhaps? SA cap insignia & green enamels too
