The helmet is clearly beyond restoration, friend...But it will certainly display well!
I'm sure that Preservation tips can be found in the restoration/refurbishing section...

I wouldn't touch it, leave it as it is as a nice relic. If you start painting it, use filler, welding in parts and so on you will only end up with a horrible mess. A relic has a story to tell, a repainted relic is nothing more than a flower pot without any history.
