It's a pretty nice day out today, though a little too sunny, but I decided to reshoot a favorite helmet. This is a Luftwaffe M35 ET66, 1st pattern eagle. I have had this one for several years and it is one of my absolute favorites. Came from an online auction out of Florida from a vet estate. He supposedly got it from a surrendering Luftwaffe soldier in Cherbourg. But, we all know how stories go. There are signs of a rough overcoat applied over the smooth paint, but much has worn off, almost all. The decals are still fairly covered with the rough paint. Some areas the paint has been worn off down to the bare steel. Liner band dated 1938. Strap is a Wuppertal dated 1937 & LBA marked. Named on liner to a Rich Hammel.

This one will be with me for a very long time

I really like this one Todd, lots to look at and examine in the paint, very cool. I've been researching first pattern double decal Lufts and have noticed that some have repainted apple green liner pins. Yours has this feature as well as what appears to be evidence of the rough over paint. I recently found one that looks like the whole helmet was repainted for the Luftwaffe.

Helmets do not have to be mint, this one oozes character to me. Nice one Todd. Jim G.

Thank you for the kind comments, they are, as always, very much appreciated. Jim speaks the truth, they don't have to be mint to be great helmets, and this one is a perfect example. To hold this one in hand and smell the dark brown liner and run your cotton glove covered fingers across the dome is fantastic. It truly does ooze character. If steel could talk the stories it could tell!

A great helmet Todd ,looks a fine piece. Oh by the way , stop taking the p*s* by saying it's sunny and you have nothing better to do. It's cold as brass monkeys here and i'm working!! Leon.
