I have the oportunity to buy this helmet, any coments

Hi Jean
Well it has the M31 liner in it, and looks to have been overpainted black at some point. But I have no idea what that stencil represents. I've just looked through my books and can't find it? Interesting to say the least. you might have a nice surprise under the paint
Depends on how much it is
Thanks John
I was intriged by the stensil myself.
Seller claims ownership from 1952 when he was a conscript in the belgian army.
He got it from a farmers wife in which barn he slept during field excercise

I have never seen that stenciled insignia before, but then again, I had never seen a stenciled HJ helmet before the picture was posted the other day on another thread. The shell the liner and the chinstrap are real, and if the price is reasonable, I personally would buy it. Jim G.
Personally I'd say to leave it as it is even though it looks to have the original war time applied paint underneath, I dont think whats been added is an attempt to pass the helmet off as something else for more money. For me at least to removed the paint and stenciled decal would be destroying part of this helmets history.
Thats my input and opinion
Thanks
Danny
Could this be a demolitions insignia on post ww1 occupyers helmet?league of nations era?
What should be a fair price to pay?
Jean
Bought the helmet today, together with a Luftschutz Gladiator.
Owner (a retired paracommando) got it from a farmer in germany in 1952 while staying at his barn during manouvres.
The farmer was a former SS member as pictures on the walls in his house showed.
He traded the helmet for cigarettes or coffee, very desirable items in those days so close after the war.
This is the story behind the helmet.
Personally I think that the fieldgrau helmet was overpainted with black in the early thirties for the SS members.
The stencil remains a mistery but probably post war.

Redgemak, looks to be an Austro-Hungarian M17 shell, the now defunct chinstrap bail rivets give it away, I would say by the air vent lugs a size 66/68, what are the mm, I cannot make them out, even by expanding the photo.
