    indeed an austrian M17, the only markings are 64 in the helmet.

    Redgemak, not all WW1 Austro-Hungarian helmet shells were marked with a mm or a heat/lot number, unlike their German counterparts.....a "64" shell would usually have a small "step up" on the air vent lug...I wonder if it was remarked when refurbished in its later life....

    If you can get some pictures of the interior especially the linerband and chinstrap bales I might be able to give some insight if this is postwar painted or not. I suspect it was postwar painted for some purpose along with the insignia.
