    Hi guys,

I'ts been a while, but for some reason I had to go helmet hunting again.
I was looking for an affordable Heer helmet, and found this one.
A salty helmet, but what I like about it is the brushed on black(?) paint.

    What do you think?

Thanks guys , the chin strap was a nice surprise... I didn't know it had one until I got the helmet in the mail.

After I paid for the helmet I asked the seller if he knew any history on it.
    He told me this story:

53 years ago, as a kid, he and the neighbourhood kids used to go to a nearby army shooting range to search for bullet shells (the recently demolished 2nd Alexander barracks in the Hague/Scheveningen if anyone knows it).
This was strictly forbidden ofcourse, and sometimes there was an officer patrolling the range, whenever the kids saw him they hid in the bushes.

In the bushes they found a hole, which turned out to be an entrance into some kind of bunker network (after a quick search I believe this to be the ''Stützpunkt XXXXIa H – Batterie Wasserturm'').
In there were rooms with wall paintings with swastikas and ''heil Hitler'', and all kinds of abandoned stuff, rifles, pistols.
Some of the ''big'' boys took guns home to show off to the other kids in the street .
The parents were not amused and this was the last of their adventures in the bunkers.

Instead of a gun, the seller took home this helmet and was able to keep it.

Its a neat helmet! Its not black paint just a darker shade of green, but it does look brushed on. Probably to update it to later standards. You can see the original apple green in the dome. I like the story too... If only that bunker was still there, no telling what treasures it held!
