The weathering on it could be from exposure to salt air on the coast, and it looks like a concussion crack on the rear of the apron. Maybe the soldier was in a coastal artillery unit that saw some action during a landing? Just speculation on my part. It does look fine to me. Jim G.

another interesting possiblility as well. from now on, i think soldiers should be required to write their stories in their helmets so that future collectors will know exactly when a helmet was issued, what combat it saw, etc. : )

Good deal for sure and the concussion crack does add a nice element of charachter to this one despite the rough condition. Always good to get other opinions, nice to have a consensus before you buy something.

3 army, 1 KM, and now i begin my quest for a single decal LW helmet...

its funny how the goals work. here they are in order:

1. get a german helmet of any kind or condition (shell at least)
2. get a really nice helmet with original liner, paint, decal, etc.
3. get one heer, one LW, and one KM
4. find some way to get money for an ss
5. get the ss : )
6. and youre never done collecting!!!!!!!!!!

I had similar goals, and then I thought I would be done after getting that 1 representative SS....however the addiction took hold and here I am later with a room full of these lightning bolt decaled helmets each with a different story.....only death can depart me from this addiction, er, passion!!!

But seriously you have an excellent strategy. Start with what makes sense, and keep upgrading from there, learning the entire time. In no time you will have that SS helmet and then it will be a police, then by maker, then my shell type, then by decal type, it never ends.............

Doug , ive had to deal; with quite a few addicts in my time and most end up taking another shot in the arm, i think what you need is a shot of ss field grey and molybedendum steel lol

just saw this thread ! I can't tell more as I can't see all the details I wanted to check , pics being not good enough , but all the features I can see so far are those of a Km decal . As soon as you receive this helmet , please post a very good close up to confirm the positive opinions

I would like to see a close-up of the decal.But I would say it is a good one.

Well so far it looks like 3 think its good (me, doug, and chris) and noone thinks its bad yet. i think id like to get at least one more opinion. ade? schwerpunkt? any takers? : )
