Welcome to the forum, that's a very nice helmet! My favourite kind, a Heer with a history. I've just ordered my first helmet, it's pretty similar to yours actually:
Regards,
Robbie
Very nice helmets, both of you. Half of the German helmet collections of the world start out with a rough, but honest Heer M40 like these.
These are both fantastic, I think a Heer M40 ET64 may be my next purchase. Thanks for showing!
very nice lid trevor it looks very good
robbie well done
Very nice, Trevor. Thanks for posting and welcome to the forum.
Nice lid! Named and salty, just like I like em. Congrats
Welcome to the forum
Back in the late 50s I was scouring the countryside and early dealer sites for original helmets.
They were very common souvenirs and relatively cheap. We used to use shells for targets. Nobody was making liners.
Point is, out of a ton or so helmets I handled, non had names.
Personally I believe any named helmet is suspicious and a product of the wave of inflated value of all this stuff.
Just my take, but based on some observation-they went from almost non existent to all over the place.
I'm sure some must have been original, but not in the numbers presently seen.
Fakery turned me from a collector to an observer.
Nice honest helmet.
That's very interesting, and I can understand your suspicions, although I have seen original photographs of names and feldpost numbers in helmets. If I come across any again I will try to post them here.
Also, the level of research that one would have to do to write a feldpost number in a helmet would make the whole process not worth it. That and the fact that helmets come out of the woodwork all the time with all sorts of things written in them means that original helmets were certainly named quite often during the war.
Besides, a name in a helmet doesn't tend to raise the value, or at least by very much, unless it is an SS or some other kind of high-end helmet.
