"In all my years as a soldier, I have never seen men fight so hard." - SS Obergruppenfuhrer Wilhelm Bittrich - Arnhem
Good thread to start, my first one I posted today and you saw it.
Besides some Tommy helmets I had as a child, my first German helmet was a Czech reused m42 which I might have some 35mm pictures of somewhere and then a Hungarian m35 clone with the loop on the rear before I got a "proper" German one. I graduated eventually to a single decal SS m42 before I sold them all about 7 years back and I only have some German tropenhelms these days as well as some Tommies and some other sun helmets as well as some other helmets.

Jerry
Whatever its just an opinion.
The worst one i had was one bought from the Exchange and Mart when i was a kid, i thought "great i can get a german helmet for £5.00" when it arrived it was a fibre glass film prop with foam rubber for a liner, i learnt very quickly and the hard way
thx to you guys here i lucked out and my first german helmet was a nice looking luftschutz gladiator. you guys saved me from making that "first mistake" of buying something i had no idea about.
Just wait and see Andy! The lid we are using for "model" to the covers is a real "beauty". I have not bought or dug it. But i have it. It's a M40.... i think. Pics to come

These Egyptian freedom fighters had to do some quick thinking when faced against Mubharak's tanks, AK's and RPG's not long ago....unfortunately all these helmets were stinkers....
The "I'm ready for anything" MK1
The "Baguettes of War" sandwich helmet.
The "Best equipped man in Tahir Square" helmet.
And my personal favourite, "The rubbish (bin)" helmet.
