Any evidence of decals under the paint? I'm cautiously positive, like Todd I don't see anything screaming 'no!' at me.

Here are some more pictures of the helmet. I don't see any decals underneath the paint.

Is there any way to know what this helmet was? And if the paint is actually period.

I think the paint looks really good. I have a reissue that is suppose to be a double decal Heer, but I would never in my life attempt to chip away any paint to find out. Here is a photo of mine with similar repaint as yours.

Unfortunately, sometimes the paint is so thick you can not even make out the outlines of a decal, even if the decal is still there. I'm afraid this one may remain a mystery. Reason enough to hang onto it

nice find, it looks like there is brush strokes on it so probably repainted at some point, but im no expert either, others will let you know for sure, wish the flea markets around here had cool stuff like that!!

You would think the PA and NJ flea markets would have due to being close to the ocean but they don't. The best I saw was a REALLY worn out helmet before I was collecting that looked like a lawn orament with all the rust lol

Yeah I wish I could tell what it was... Is there a way to research the name? That's maybe the way to find out if it was an SS/Polizei or something else...
