    Hello all,

My latest lid arrived today (a nice salty M42) however there is a little bit of white mould on the liner and chinstrap.

I’d like advice on the best conservative approach to safely remove the white mould thus preventing any further spread in this or other items in my collection.

I’ve read some prior threads and have seen various methods talked about including a mixture of white vinegar and water as well as the suggestion of rubbing alcohol or clove oil.

Any advice on what works and what is safest method greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Andrew

Pure white vinegar water mixture did it for my flight jacket.
the vinegar not only cleans but kills any further spawns. Try 25% vinegar, 75% water first.

Just make sure it's vinegar as the not-so-pure vinegar has bleaching qualities in it......and dilute heavily at first

It may just wipe off with hot water , if you then leave it in a normal environment it won't return.
    Don't do anything drastic.

And afterwards I suggest keeping a dehumidifier in your war room. I have one in mine that I run for a few hours every day to keep the humidity at 45-50% in there. Keeps mold from happening and I would like to think it helps prevent zinc pest.

I've used deluted vinegar to clean mould from a leather Luftwaffe trench coat.
It didn't effect the colour or cause any harm to the leather.

Light wipe with hot water as Frank said. I've done this and it worked.

I've also used diluted white vinegar as well to good effect once or twice.

But start with the simple hot water first.

    Thanks Frank.

Sounds like the least invasive method so will try that first. Definitely won’t do anything drastic - I don’t want to damage the liner in any way.
