Jamming the front against something would flatten the brim like that and bulge the skirt but to me the skirt is way too long - THATS the weird part!!

As said this is a relic M42 which has been deformed in some way. Looks very odd though.

It would need to be some serious pressure to cause that. You could probably drive a car over these things all day long with no problems. Don't though, please

its been bent and deformed some how, not sure if it is combat damage or done post war.

As has already been said, its a weird one, i agree , the skirt is much longer than normal, almost like a lobster pot helmet skirt, plus the dome is very high, it just does'nt make much sense
