    Guys just got this in, just want to make sure I am correct to say this is a m18 transitional helmet marked si66 with steel liner band, looks to be a fieldgreu color so did they paint these that color or post war paint? And this shows no signs of ever having a decal and paint does show wear in places, I got this dirt cheap btw so not alot invested in this helmet

    Hard to tell from your photos too dark. Based on these however I do not think that is the original color. Paint looks like one layer while these helmets often were painted over the first WW1 layer or received a textured surface from 1940 to end of war. Many transitionals also received decal(s).

    Here's close ups of the paint, only paid $100 for it so not alot even if it has post war paint

    No does not seem the right texture , color or thickness.

    Ok thanks, I guess I strip off this post war paint later today and see what's under it

    Don't bother you can see the metal almost through it. It is too light a coating to reveal anything imo.

    I can see that now, I do have a buddy who does restore helmets that's had the original paint strip off like this one and going to see if he can maybe do a camo m18 ww1 or maybe a heer sd for display purpose, like I said only cost me $100
