Nice buckle and a strange combination, on the cusp on the change over from Aluminium to steel. Your has a steel box and aluminium prongs and sleeve, so they were either using up old stock when made or the prongs and sleeve have been replaced at some point

Nice buckle. With the 1940 date I wouldn't worry about the aluminum prongs.
There are some past threads that highlighted this oddity.

That's a nice buckle, too bad the leather tab did not make it...
I also own one of these "first productions" steel buckle with aluminium prongs etc... from 1940 (with the leather tab)
(this mixing of material is mentioned in my book about the german combat equipment)
