I had never really thought of the availability of food, like I said the things we take for granted these days. But I am a lean guy and have a waist in the 31-32 inch range and I have got to suck it all in and position the belt between my ribs and waist just to get it around me.
The buckle is probably battle worn. Aluminium buckles were issued between 1936 and 1939. You will find some 40 dated ones but these were mainly the leather support tabs that were marked. With the rigors of combat and the shortage of aluminium they replaced it with a steel one by 1940. If you are new to buckles have a read of these threads, they may be of some use

I used to have a trim 28 inch waist at 15 years to aroundby Wagriff
28 and weighed 125 Lbs. Though nowhere near Sgt
Schultz in size, these days I feel a little closer
to that personna.........

Wagriff,lots of men wore german belts and buckles after the war here in the UK.
Without "denazifying" them?? I knew that alot of belts were used, but almost always you would see them ground down and defaced. They were nice sturdy belts, if nothing else!

Welcome to the forum and to collecting buckles, one word of advice for a noob, stay away from anything SS, or at least post a picture here before buying it!!!
