I have read that there have been recent repros of this A&S stamped buckle - can I get opinion on this one?
The nash book shows the markings to be raised but this one is stamped into the metal.
thanks

this is possibly nickel plated steel
It seems as though this marking shows up on steel examples which would be late for this early mark. There is a blurb in the book that says steel ones with this marking are bad. That is the mark that should be on the earlier buckles like the one you show but they wouldn't be steel. I would wait for someone else to chime in.
I would also say that most of the bad examples have the markings on the other side.
I searched the forum and did find similar examples to this buckle. And also found as you said a fake version with same markings but located under the roller bar. I am thinking this one is ok but would like more opinions.

Joe, buckle is fine, I would have it in my collection

Ben,
What would the metal composition on this buckle be if it isn't steel?
