Hey Mac! I believe the knife if manufactured by Gebruder Bell....it's an early made piece (no ricasso).

As Adam has already alluded to, I think that the number 2 is an in house Assmann code for the mould/production run. For some odd reason, "1" appears to be more difficult to secure than "2", although the dimple back "1" does exist.
The "1" and "2" code was also applied to the flat back HJ's by Assmann.
