Default Late war HJ by Assmann with "2"?

Hey gang...Here's the second buckle I was able to score yesterday....looks like a late war "potmetal" HJ made by Assmann....I went for it given the construction. I didn't have one with the "dimple" on the back. Inside this dimple is the number
"2"....would anyone know why there would have been a number put there?

Thoughts and opinions always welcome! Happy to have it added to the HJ buckle display.....
    Cheers!

Hey Rob Great hj buckle collection you got there

Never seen this late war hj Assmann with #2 stamped in a hollow before so could be scarce?

Whats the maker of your early hj knife?

    Regards Mac 66.

Hey Mac! I believe the knife if manufactured by Gebruder Bell....it's an early made piece (no ricasso).
    Cheers!

Nice original "kriegsmetall" Assmann buckle, Rob Also nice obverse finish...a rarity with these buckles as they usually dulled to a dismal lackluster quality. I believe the "2" here refers to mold #. Attached is my example.

    Best,
    Adam

    Dear Rob

As Adam has already alluded to, I think that the number 2 is an in house Assmann code for the mould/production run. For some odd reason, "1" appears to be more difficult to secure than "2", although the dimple back "1" does exist.

The "1" and "2" code was also applied to the flat back HJ's by Assmann.

    Regards,

    David
