    I believe it's a genuine buckle by Paul Cramer (RZM UE 72).

    Interesting markings. I wouldn't really consider any HJ buckle rare except for the gold finished ones and the one example I have seen with a pebbled field. That one I think is a factory mistake and that would bring top dollar. Most HJ buckles are $100 or less. Mint examples with tags add $50-75 more. DJ to HJ conversions are $150-250. Can anyone think of any other rare HJ buckles?

    It is a unique buckle with the M5 instead of M4 and the prong bar but I have seen a lot if these .

    For anyone interested, HJ buckles were numbered differently than might be expected. For example, buckles marked with UE (Uniformen Effekten) generally use the M4 RZM codes, whilst those marked KH (Koppelschloß Hersteller) use M5. The M4 prefix was the one used for buckles, and M5 was for uniforms and accoutrements. I don't know why the belt buckle numbers weren't used for all of them, but the more experienced members might be able to say.

    Erno,
    you actually have that backwards
    KH=M4
    UE=M5
    RZM1=M1/1
    and this is only a guideline as manufacturers regularly made mistakes

    In regards to rarity, this is an extremely common buckle.
    There are many "rare" HJ and DJ buckles. There is a long list of seldom seen makers marks, oddities and prototypes. Ever seen a two piece HJ (not a conversion) ? or a Black DJ buckle ? those are both rare!
