Most likely old Lacquer that has taken on a gold looks. No reason a EM Luftwaffe buckle would have a true gold finish.
I appears to be a nice M4/86 Sohni Heubach & Co., Oberstein ( S.H. u. Co. )... G

Agreed-it's been lacquered or varnished some time in the past and it's toned to yellow with age.

Thanks guys, that's what I thought.
Am I right when I say that S.H. u. Co is a rare maker?
I agree with the rest, the buckle is just aged, but a nice buckle In ref to being rare they dont come up for sale that often but would not class them as rare

One of my LW buckles has a similar patina. Chalk it up to hard use and wax or some other leather treatment getting on the buckle. It gets yellow over time. Nice example - love the worn buckles that show genuine use! NH
The maker might actually hurt the value. There are a lot of fakes with this mark, mostly Heer.
