The early pattern Assmann catch on a 1940 Heer buckle, the catches and quality got worse as the war progressed. Also note this has an aluminium prongs and prong sleeve, being 1940 dated they were probably using up the aluminium stock they had during the transition to the steel buckles

I always wonder when it is said "typical this, typical that".

Who knows Assmann just manufactured the prongs and roll
and the buckle is from another company, unmarked.
I know also Overhoff made these seperate parts for other
companies. Therefore my "typical this, typical that"!
I use the word "typical" Wim in that you find a lot of Assmann buckles or Overhoff with this trait on them, we all know both Overhoff and Assmann provided parts or even buckle to other makers. So to me if a certain maker has a particular trait to their buckles it does not matter who provided the parts if they did it would be typical to that maker.

Aurich buckles had a distinct eagles head that no other maker used so again we can say that this is typical of this maker
