I picked up this buckle in the mid 1980's (obviously prior to the collapse of the Wall) from a bric-a-brac shop in Lincoln.
It is dull gold in colour and without the tiniest residue of paint. It is also magnetic.
My thoughts are that it must have been issued at the Kadettenschule Naumburg, which ran between 1956-1960, and where the cadets wore NVA uniforms, but with golden coloured buttons, insignia and buckles.
Any other thoughts ?
