Felt like this subforum needed some more uniform photography! Here's my service uniform for an officer of the DDR customs administration (Zollverwaltung der DDR) with the rank of oberkommissar. I guess this would translate to high or chief commissioner. The tunic is marked ''Zoll'' and is dated 1Y (first quarter of 1988). The cap is dated ''O'' meaning 1974 but for some reason, lacks the markings for any organization (Does anyone know what this could mean?). Unfortunately the ribbon bar isn't quite correct as it lacks the lower level service medals, and it's rather difficult to get correct ribbon bars for Zoll. I haven't seen photos of customs personnel wearing the brown officer's belt or Makarov holster but I put them there to improve the display.
Zollverwaltung der DDR was subordinate to the Ministry of Foreign Trade, which in turn was controlled by the Stasi. It was created in 1962 after the wall was constructed and it succeeded the ''Amt für Zoll und Kontrolle des Warenverkehrs (AZKW)'' (Translates to something like ''Office of customs and control of goods''). The customs administration was considered an armed state organ and was responsible for the control of goods, foreign exchange and money transactions. (Wikipedia)
