there were like normal ones black, silver and gold depending on injuries substained
ps i believe theres still one at the imperial war museum in its box in silver (no idea if its original or not )
5 Gold , 2 silver and 17 Black were awarded , an estimated price for a Gold one a few years ago was 35,000 Euros , 15,000 euro for an Urkunde and 5,00 euro for the Etui !! Price wise you have to remember that for Award collectors this is one of the rarest pieces to own !!

Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.
Who leaves him now , be damned forever.
We who are old now shall not leave this Battle,
But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader

Thank you everyone! This has been a history lesson for me! I knew all about the plot and what happened, but I didn't know about these awards. Good information indeed!!

Certainly agree Mark it wouldn't be something i would be spending that sort of money on !! That said last year after the Museum at Avranches closed and the items were auctioned off someone paid 46,000 euros for an American 101 Airborne helmet from Normandy !! Must be some crazy millioniares imvolved in collecting !!
