Black Verwundeten abzeichen MM4 S&L

Hello All,
I don't know about this one.
I spotted it today whilst I was out and about and I thought the finish for a steel S&L Maker marked with the small 4 had been repainted.
I didn't have my loupe in my pocket again so as it was cheap enough I bought it anyway.
Now closely inspecting it perhaps it is the original finish?
I can never tell if these are post war made S&Ls done for the collectors market.

Any opinions welcomed.

Hi Doug,

I agree it's a good 'small 4' in steel, but whether the finish is original is a moot point. I'm used to seeing these with at least a little rust poking through even intact finishes and this one looks almost too good, but who knows? Maybe an acetone test may help to decide?

Thank you all for the positive responses.
I did the old nail varnish remover rub and did get some debris off but the paint is intact underneath Ned so perhaps it is just a good looking badge but what I do see is there is corrosion showing under the paint that hasn't bust through the surface yet. Careful stowage may preserve it.
