    Would you happen to know how to clean the blackish color off from it? Or would you ruin the badge in doing so?

    I really think that you should leave it as it is. Cleaning can certainly damage that badge, I would not recommend you to do that.

    I just saw that you actually zoomed in the hinge and not the catch and just in case that you didnt find that second maker mark on that badge I have marked it on that photo below.

    Get yourself a jeweller's loupe available on eBay and elsewhere really does help when looking at maker's marks. Cheers, Mark

    Yes, I meant on that mark, and actually it should be looking like that. It is number 4, but maybe it is not that clear and certainly it is not that large like some other marks, from some other makers, which you can find on those wound badges.
