supposedly there is a difference in tool marks here between real and the particular fake we are discussing. apparently sometimes there is. i want to see if we have that here.

    Rene, thanks for posting.

if you could do me a big favour, could you post a tight close-up of the pin showing the area where it enters the hinge and a little bit of the straight part on it's way to the catch? about the upper 1/3 of the pin basically.

it's not that i have any doubts, i just want to see some tool marks.

i'm looking for a nice, big, straight on shot of this area here:

I'm not a good photographer, I hope these suffice? hang on I"ll give the scope a go

Not easy to focus on this one and it's as far out as I can go.

that's good enough i think. supposedly, this is a difference as well.

the hinge barrel and upper pin markings in yours are different from what you see in these fakes.

yours has a striated hinge barrel and indescrete, "sloppy" tool mark at the bend in the pin:

in the fake the hinge barrel is smoother and the tool mark at the pin bend is a single discreet point:

i'm really stretching my memory here, but i do think those who have this fake will see this difference as well. the pictures in this thread are not good enough with respect to this feature for me to be any more convincing if indeed i am remember this correctly.

at any rate, maybe those who have this fake can check this out under magnification. what views there are of these fakes does seem to support the notion.

they may also find that whereas there's has a "box" outline on the badge itself at the base of the hinge where it is attached to the badge, yours does not. this final comment i do not know academically as a difference that is a red flag, but it is there and i wonder if i need to look into it.

I think the evidence you present is overwhelming tempelhof, clear as daylight.

well i want to be clear that there is so much to these badges. and obviously i'm going beyond what is required to make the case and not to beat a dead horse but more to make the thread useful in times to come.

but what i started saying... there is so much to these badges and these last items about the outline at the base of the hinge... i'm stretching my memory here big time. i don't like making incorrect statements in case i am wrong about this. it would be nice if someone with specific experience with this fake could come along besides me and confirm this one for me. but it is a difference in the badges at hand but i don't have enough photos of authentic ones to safely say this outline NEVER occurs in an authentic L/53. i see it all the time and i'm seeing it now and pointing it out but i'd like to know where i got that.

    sometimes you just can't remember!

From your evidence these are originals? you can see the lines going across the top of the hinge barrel block. What is your opinion on the dot pattern please....

Thanks again for pointing these fake badges out to us. This thread will
ensure that others who read it won't get fooled - These are very
    dangerous copies.........!

Rene, congrats on a nice original L/53 badge !
    Regards,

    Steve.
