I don't think the badge was ever marked on the pin. I certainly haven't seen one marked that way.
The first ones that they came up with were marked 116 and this number was located at the bottom of the helmet rim.
So I think what must have happened was they still used the original die for the obverse but this was mixed with a new L/56 reverse die.
Only later on as the old (116 obverse) dies wore out the newer more finely pebbled obverse die was then used.
I know of at least two variants of the reverse L/56 die but yours is the more unusual and I would imagine harder to find example.
