It's referred to as the 'Assmann Design', or sometimes the 'Chaotic Dot Pattern' wound badge, although I'm not sure the link is confirmed yet and as far as I know it's still by an unknown maker. I think Ralph has one identical he's showed here before. There is also a silver type that can be found as well, but neither that or the above badge are marked with the Assmann 'Gentleman' logo (there are examples that are but the rear set up is at variance) so I think until other evidence arises they remain being manufactured by an unknown maker.

Here's the obverse of an unmarked silver example. Note the difference in the sword handles to the one above suggesting a different maker.

    Thank you,
    I see a difference - a swastika
    - Sword handle
    Probably more manufacturers

Yes the silver is hollow, but I haven't found a usable picture of the reverse. Without doubt this design was used as a basis for more than one manufacturer who commonly added their own 'wrinkle' during the carving of the die to be individualistic or even due to the engravers personal artistic style.

    Regards, Ned.
