What a nice little pick up!By the look of the ageing to the de-nazified area i would say that it was done at the time.I would'nt be suprised if the camp authorities ordered the POW to remove the symbol himself or they would most definatley have conferscated it.
I like it but if made by a German POW, why is July not spelt Juli?
Looking for LDO marked EK2s and items relating to U-406.....
Maybe the camp guard who received it wrote on the back who made it for him and when?
William
"Much that once was, is lost. For none now live who remember it."
That was my first thought as well.
I would bet that the writing was done by an American. The date order as well is what I would expect to see here in the states. Usually I see it day then month... ie 22 July when written by a German... I would bet my left foot an American wrote it.
The thing that I think seals it for me is that there was a small remote POW camp in Nampa Valley Idaho which was a sub camp for another larger camp. If it is fabricated why pick a small remote camp... why not a large famous camp.
Very nice item!
Congratulations,
Ralph.
Searching for anything relating to, Anton Boos, 934 Stamm. Kp. Pz. Erz. Abt. 7, 3 Kompanie, Panzer-Regiment 2, 16th Panzer-Division (My father)
