What is this I found laying in the ground?

Hello my fellow relic lovers! Long time since my last thread!

I took a little trip to moscow with my friend Monuir to visit Datrus, and we marched out in the mosquito dense forest of Russia.

And voila!!

What is this I found laying in the ground?

Can anyone figure out what maker and so on?

Just a little nudged from the battle and time passed until I found it.

I had a little trouble with my picture upload and camera settings, so if you want more better pics, tell me and I will bring it!

That's worth suffering the mosquito bites for! Nice find. I'm sure someone will be able to identify it but it reminds me of a Deumer.

A superb find! It's a Wurster hollow "Organized Grass Pattern" Panzerkampf Abzeichen made from tombak. This was the second die that Wurster used out of a total of three, and the likelihood is it was a bronze grade badge, as around 99% of all early Wurster production badges such as this second die type were, barring a known handful of extremely rare silver ones. Juncker produced only silver ones during the same period, so it's likely that Wurster was the first firm to produce the bronze Panzerkampf Abzeichen after it's inception in June 1940. A remarkable find, what stories could it tell?

What is the best way to Gently Clean it and preserve it?

To be honest, it doesn't look like it needs too much cleaning. A gentle going over with a soft brush will remove most of the loose surface dirt. It looks like it's down to the base metal with no finish remaining so that is pretty much what you've got, you won't be able to get it shiny again, just enjoy it for what it is!

I agree with just using a soft brush to take the crud off, these badges only had a very minimal dark brown wash applied to them, and this would quickly wear off in combat wear, so many are found with no finish remaining on them.

Regarding the Deumer early type hollow Panzerkampf Abzeichen made from tombak, I have an unissued example in bronze that i'll photograph and put up on a new thread if anyone's interested in seeing an example of it.
