Gents, i dont know if anyone has seen this particular item for sale in the classifieds but to my eye there appears to be much resemblance to a cast construction with soft details , could someone either confirm or disagree with my observations

Hi Dave,

Looks like a genuine late war zinc badge to me. These Karneth badges at that time were often of a 'softer' appearance due to die wear. This one also appears a little worn as well. The hinge is interesting, and swings it for me. Karneth experienced difficulties with fragile hinges when the 'ball type hinge' was not available, and many were re-soldered by the factory in a fairly 'workmanlike' fashion shall we say. I also think the catch is correct as well.

This one matches many of these ugly in house repairs, where others think it is a field replacement (which is not an impossibility), but I rather fancy this has been done by the manufacturer.

Price is about bang on for one of these too.

Correct; more of a pillow-crimp style hinge base instead of the utilization of a mounting plate. Here's some extra photos to serve as a visual aide to those that need it.

Thanks for the heads up on this particular type of construction, the one thing that really had me going was the detailing in the breast feathers, as i believe there was a previous thread months ago concerning the diamond formation on fake badges, that combined with the soft detailing on the rest of the badge gave me concern

I agree these Karneth badges do look cast. I had to question my latest purchase
