The yellow dust around the de nazified swastika is identical to that shown on a badge in the last week or two (Panzerkampfabzeichen???) that was mooted to have been shot through with a bullet in exactly the same area, so there is a link to the two only I can't find the other thread now!

The makers mark looks weak on this GAB, and as already mentioned, the catch is a previously unknown type and the lack of detail on the oakleaves, the 'Dotted' pattern seen on originals (below) is missing, makes me call this one bad.

I would agree with everything Ned has said here plus; Period de-nazification was done in order that the badge remain in use usually by the original holder either still worn by a PoW as was permitted in Britain or as a keepsake. Eitherway it would surely have been done with a little more care! Also, the badge represented here is the "semi hollow" version which was made in zinc. The metal of this badge looks a lot like some kind of copper based alloy of the type known generically as brasses. Granted this might be the picture but it certainly does not look like zinc either plated, frosted or painted. Not to mention the localised yellow staining.

Definately a "wrong 'un" for me but as you say it came with other items so as long as it didn't boost the cost of the lot then it can live happily in the "little box of horror" we all have and can serve as reference material!

    Regards

    Mark
