You're good to go. It's a nice example by an unknown maker (type 1.27.1), but better known by collectors as " The 4 rivet GAB".

    Regards, Ned.

Actually, more a case of "It's O.K. to put in your shop window...." Nudge, nudge, wink, wink, say no more.

I would grab it in a heartbeat.

...if the price was fair of course.

Hi Ned old mate, do you think this might be a very late example? As most we see haven't got the riveted hinge & catch plates in a silver wash colour? The "norm" is a bronze/buntmetal colour hardware. I'm interested in your thoughts mate. Possibly a satellite maker to what we see more often. Thanks mate. Stewy

    Hi Mate,

No, not a late badge IMO. The method of fitting the hardware with the integral posts being "mushroomed" over to secure the hardware is quite sophisticated and certainly unique. Furthermore, I would say the badge is plated and not a wash finish. Regarding the hardware, the small block hinge and "?" shaped catch as well as the pin are buntmetall in the above badge.

This same design appeared as a solid version, and even a "dished back" type with various sheet metal hinges, but as far as I recall the catches remained buntmetall as well. Although these badges are considered by some to be later, there is no proof that they are, or even by the same unknown maker for that matter. As we know by other types of combat badges, certain designs were shared by several firms, and this may well be the same case here.

    Regards, Ned.
