Hi Danny,
It's by an unknown maker and goes under the type number 1.25.1 or "Unknown Maker #8" in Frank Heukemes GAB book. It is very closely related to the other UM type 1.24.3 badge, the slightly different shape of the eagles head being the only real difference. The one you show has a known variant round catch plate as compared to the more common rectangular one. A nice badge with plenty of obverse finish on it, well done.

I know mine is an unknown maker, referred to as "Unknown Maker #8", as stated in the VERY APPRECIATED information above but to me it resembles the GAB in this thread, made by Karl Wurster, in my opinion.
I realize there are probably vast differences that my untrained eye can't see, they just look very similar to me.

Just check out things like the head shape, rounded breast feathers compared to sharp on the Wurster, different leg feathers, feet and claw design, ridge patterned oak leaves that go over the lines of the edge of the #8 whereas they are smooth and inside the lined edge of the Wurster example, different reverse finishes and hardware etc., etc. The list goes on, you need to get the book if you want to collect these seriously old pal.
